Question about type of LAN cable for IEEE802.3af

Hi,

In general, can we consider that the description of ”IEEE802.3af-compliant ” guarantees the availability of CAT5 STP LAN cable?

Hi Go,

Per the current IEEE802.3at standard, it references cable parameters such as resistances and cable standards and recommends CAT5 cable or better. It does not specify shielded as a requirement. So either shielded or unshielded can be used in PoE applications.

Typically, I see shielded cables to help with better EMI performance.
