TPS2388: Classification failed whild Sifos test

Part Number: TPS2388

Hi,

For the previous issue:

While using Sifos test instrument as "normal" PD device, TPS2388 could identify it as class4 PD and provide power.

But when using Sifos test instrument as "Sifos testing" PD device, TPS2388 could only identify it as class0 PD, and show the report below.

(BTW the report is the same if test by TPS2388EVM)

And this issue has been fixed after add a cap on PSE output (C3/C4/C5/C6 at TPS2388EVM), why this can fix this issue? Could you help to explain it? Thank you.

  • Hi Chentsu,

I have some questions to clarify with you. Thanks.

    1. When testing your board, how did you run the software? Did you write your own software?
    2.  When you say "BTW the report is the same if test by TPS2388EVM", do you mean our EVM had the same failure on "Mark_lim"? We have tested our EVM and it passed 100%.

    Best regards,

    Penny

  • Hi Penny,

    1. sorry I'm not sure about SW part because the RD was resign.
2.Yes, the report shows fail at the same item.

Because the RD was resign and issue has been fixed, I just want to know that what kind of issue could be fixed by that cap.
Or do you have any experience about the cap? Thank you very much.
  • Chentsu,

Please check how you ran the software with the EVM. We ran the EVM with MSP430 reference code(www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware) and GUI(please click "Enable Sifos Test Mode") and it all passed the sifos test. The cap is in the control loop of the gate, so it is important to the system's stability. Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Penny
