I'm finishing up a circuit design and I was wondering what sort of voltage drop I should expect with this MOSFET. I plan on using this MOSFET as a switch to turn off power to most of the ICs in my circuit. I chose this MOSFET due to the low Rds. The system voltage will be ~2.85V (the gate will be driven with this voltage as well), and the maximum power draw will be ~300mA.
What sort of voltage drop should the rest of my system see? Is this the most appropriate product for that application? If not, what would be ideal?
Daniel, The voltage drop depends on gate voltage provided to the FET. If the FET is fully enhanced, the voltage drop should be relatively small. So assuming the worst case possibly resistance at 2.5V of 11.6mOhm, at 300mA, the highest Vds drop you would see would be 0.3*11.6E-3= 3.48mV. This application seems relatively low power and as such I see no reason this MOSFET will not work.
