CSD17573 bode diode

Dear Sir,

I have a question about CSD17573 bode diode.

If an inrush current pass through bode diode, how can I calculate junction temperature of MosFET?

When I get the total power pass through bode diode, is the thermal resistor the same as in datasheet? or I have to concern the other conditions?

Any suggestion is useful for me.

Thanks for your help!

Regards,

Ben

  • Ben,

As you correctly point out, the first step is to calculate the power that is going to be dissipated through the diode.

The thermal resistance is more a function of your board and the thermal environment of your design. The datasheet just gives some estimates based on min Cu (so a worst case scenario) and 1'' Cu. If the inrush is only taking place for a short pulse duration, you should also keep in mind that for short durations, the part can handle more power, and you can refer to the transient thermal impedance curve in figure 1.

What I would do if I were you is consider the Min Cu, worst case scenario (times the single pulse normalized transient thermal impedance curve). If you are fine there, then you should be fine in general. If you are not fine, then you may have to take some extra precations, either to limit the power or to make sure your the part can handle it in the thermal environment on your board.
