We are using DCP010505DB Isolated unregulated DC converter in one of our application. But we are facing problem of high inrush current at the start and system not able to start as we have added high current protection circuit. Can any one tell me the soft start circuit which we can add to avoid this problem or any other same type of DC converter with soft start which we can use in our application.

Your preference is probably to use a module, but I would like to mention a discrete approach because of some of the advantages.

The TPS55010 is a low power isolated supply with soft start and primary side regulation.

    TPS55010 2.95V To 6V Input, 2W, Isolated DC/DC Converter with Integrated FETS http://www.ti.com/product/tps55010

There are two evms (single output and dual output) and an excel design calculator available on the product folder.

Since the device is primary sided regulated, one transformer can be used for different output voltages (e.g. 3.3V or 5V with same transformer).

Currently, we have two transformers available for the TPS55010 through wurth elektronik www.we-online.com, see the evm documentation for part numbers.

    Regards,

    David

    Sharaya:

The inrush curren ton the DCP010505DB is dependent upon the 5V power sources dv/dt.

I attached one method for delaying the turn on of the DCP0105XXX series with 5Vin.This delayed start-up design utilizes the TPS3808G50 with 10 ms delay.

The bleeder resistor must be added  between Vin(+) and on-off sync. pin to minimize stray capacitance .

    Hi All,

    Thanks for your reply.

Right now I have added low value resistor and capacitor at the input of DCP010505DB. Is that going to work as soft start and can reduce the initial high inrush current?

Here is the block diagram what we have used. Can you suggest something related to that?

    Sharayu

    Hi David,

    Thanks for your reply.

I will check the chip which you have suggested for our application.

    Regards,

    Sharayu
