PTH08TXXXX Keep Out Area

Hello TI E2E,

The PTH08Txxx family has a recommended keep out area for user components of 0.04" larger than the part dimensions.   What is the reason for this increased keep out area: assembly related, EMI related, both, other...  Our design has very aggressive size constraints so we need to know what the consequences are of placing user components closer than the 0.04" keep out area recommendation.

    Thanks,

-John

  • John:

The keep out area located under module is required to prevent  shorting out the module under side components .

The acutal minimum clearance  between  module components and your  PCB is 0.010. Your pcb  can only have low clearance vias located(0.003) under the module in the keep out area.

The mechanical data called note E on the layout pages for double side module states keep out area for all user components. On this  same page, the data states lowest component clearance is 0.010.

  • Hi Tom,

Thanks for the prompt reply.  Is it possible for the actual part dimensions of the PTH08Txxxx family to be per the dimensions in Note E in their respective datasheets, or is the Note E keep out area above and beyond the actual maximum part dimensions?  It turns out this distinction affects how we implement the keep out area in our CAD system.

    Thanks again,

    -John
