Current measurement in FPGA circuit with PTH08T220W (1V0)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PTH08T220W

Hello TI E2E,

I would like to ask about possibilities of output current measurement in circuit with this DC/DC converter:

http://www.ti.com.cn/cn/lit/ds/symlink/pth08t220w.pdf

We have this evaluation board:

http://www.xilinx.com/univ/xupv5-lx110t.htm

and the converter provides 1.0V for FPGA core. Unfortunately, the design of the board doesn't allow to directly measure the supply current in this rail. We have tried to cut the copper around pin 5 (V out), but a short-circuit is still present between the pin and rest of this net on PCB. There are no schematics or layout files for this DC/DC,
thus we don't know, what will happen if an additional resistance (of shunt resistor, that will re-connect the cutted copper) is added to the circuit.

Could anybody share with us more detailed information, what solution will be most safe for the board and can provide enough accuracy? If necessary, we have possibility to desolder/solder the module from FPGA board (our work is funded from research grant).

Thank you in advance.
Przemyslaw
