PTN78060W Input Output Voltage Considerations

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PTN78060W

Hello,

Regarding to the subject above, I'm wondering if we're not following its requirements. In my case, I want a Vout = 12V with Vin varies between 12-14V and Rset = 21kohm. Will Vout be maintaining its 12V since my Vin is not Vout+2.5V like you've mentionned in the PTN78060W datasheet? If it will, what issues would it be in terms of performances (Vout, efficiency, etc.)?

Thanks in advanced for the reply.

  • PTN78060W is a step down buck regulator which requires Vin to Vout ! 2.5V ! for regulated output voltage. The duty cycle  must not be more than 85%  Vin to Vout  or 14.5Vin to 12Vout. 12Vin to 12Vout  implies 100% duty cycle.

The PTN series will not regulate the output voltage  with 12Vin=12Vout. It willl be very unstable 12Vin=12Vout  and when setup in this configuration , it will likely overstress the converter.

I suggest you submit thsi application  to the non-isolated controller forum when they may suggest a controlller for this application. Include the output current.
