Need help selecting a high side load switch for a low power wireless sensor node

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1101, TPS22929D, TPS22941, TPS22960

I am trying to select a TI load switch which will gate power to a wireless sensor node (MSP430 + CC1101) from power source (solar cell + supercap (3.5 F)). The load switch will be controlled by a voltage detector (NCP302) with active low output (output low when voltage is below threshold). The threshold voltage level is 2.0 V with 0.1 V hysteresis (can be increased with external resistors). Need low Ron, low quiescent and low shutdown current. What other load switch features should I consider ? Please see attached pic of the node and the overall design.

  • Hello Ram - thanks for your question. We have a large selection of load switches available. What is the maximum voltage that will be applied to the load switch? We have some switches that are rated for up to 3.6V and some that are rated for up to 5.5V. Also, what type of package are you looking for ... we have some in CSP, QFN, etc.
We do have some devices with shutdown current <1uA. These devices would be a good fit for an application being powered from a solar cell and capacitor.
  • Hi Stephen,
Max load voltage is 3.6 V. The solar cells max open circuit voltage will be less than 3.6 V and the super cap can tolerate up to 5 volts. Do you have one in TSSOP or any package easy to hand solder as compared to CSP/QFN ?
  • Hello Ram - The TPS22941, TPS22960, and TPS22929D are all in leaded packages.  There are many additional devices in CSP and SON/QFN packages.
