can you please help me to calculate the value of few parameter in DCP02 Series module.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCP022415D

Hi All,

I am working on design using DCP02 Series module, i am using this for converting 24V to +/- 15V. part number is DCP022415DP, U.

  1. can you please tell me how oscillator frequency is coming 800KHZ. (as mention in the datasheet fOSC = 800Khz).
  2.  can you please guide me for calculating the ripple volatge we need ESR value of output capacitor, how to calculate this value, because in many datasheet it is written very low ESR but the value is not defined.what value need to use in that case.
  3. can you please explain onThermal Characteristics, do we need to use heatsink for DIP-14 Package.
  4. How to calculate effiency of this module, if duty cycle is not defined in datasheet.

Please let me know if any more clarification is needed from my side.

Thanks in advance.

  • DCP022415D= dual out  and all DCP series converters  use a push-pull center tap technology switching at 400kHz( divide- by- 2 circuit from 800kHz oscillator..

    2.  Output ripple attenuation methods and ESR calculation are located in the product DCP022415D page 9,10.in the application  section ..

    a.  By adding Ceramic capacitors 1.0µF to 10µF to both output buses to Vout (0V) will reduce output ripple by 10-50%.The ceramic capacitors X5R/X7R type  ESR is at these switching   frequencies  is 2.2mΩ to 4mΩ.

    b. By adding a PI filter( L and C) on output bus will attenuate ripple by 10-15db. The LC (PI)  filter on each output bus  is 1-5uH inductor( low frequency Ferrite bead) and1-2.2uF low ESR ceramic capacitors is identified below

    3. DCP02 Thermal data is Junction to case(jc)=19°C/W power dissipation. Junction to air (ja)=61°C/W power dissipation

    4. Efficiency= Power out/Power in= (15Vout X Iout)+ (!5Vout xVout)/ ( Vin x Input current )

  • Hi Tom,Thanks for the quick reply.
as per my calculation input capacitors is coming Cin MIN = 47uF.
and output capacitors is coming 0.11uF.
can you please tell me this vaue is suting for +15/-15 V output?
    Thanks in advance.RegardsPooja
  • Pooja:

DCP022415DB requires input ceramic capacitance minimum 0.47µF , but 2.2µ is better. Polarized  capacitance can be used in addition to the 2.2µF ceramic

Output ceramic capacitance per each polarity is 1.0µF  ESR is about 6-10mΩ. To  reduce ripple and noise on each Vout buses, the additional  10uF ceramic is recommended.
