DCH010505D: Input and Output Short? (DCH010505)

Part Number: DCH010505D

Hi,

What is the possibility of input and output short? In what conditions the short will happen?

Thank you very much!

  • DCH0105050D  Isolated converter  is not short circuited protected on either input  or output  circuitry.

If there is a short on the output bus , this can  overstress and short the input switching  components .

  • Hi Tom,

Thank you very much for your reply. Sorry for the confusion, I have to clarify my question, 'the input and output short' I meant is the input and output is connected directly by some certain reason, thus there is no isolation between input and output. So what is the possibility? And in what conditions this will happen? Thank you again.

  • Wayne:

Thanks for the additional information . The DCH010505D input  and output isolation can be by- passed by connecting   one polarity(pin 2  Vin Common) on  primary side to only one(1) secondary side  ( PIN6 Common) together.  DCH010505D is  a dual 0.5W per channel at ±5V .

  • Tom,

    Thank you very much!

I have to clarify my question again. The purpose of my question is to assess the risk of input and output short by some unnormal reason, customer wants to avoid the input and output short and assess the possibility of the short for safety analysis, they don't want to make it short. Could you please help to analyze it again? Thanks

  • Wayne:

Can you contact me off line at tguerin@ti.com   on this isolation transformer ever   breakdown under  any abnormal operating conditions?

I would recommend  a fuse on both input and output buses as the product specification contains typical operating operation.
