LMZ23610: LMZ23610

Part Number: LMZ23610

Our customerhad drying process due to the above table but the LMZ23610 had big quality problem .

LMZ23610 was showned with  milky leakeage as like little humid from the juction of moulding body.

Some LMZ23610 did not run  in the PCB sddrmbly after SMT process .

We bought total 750pcs of LMZ23610 on Feb. 2017 from you.

Could youplease let me get your Opinion on th above issue and how to do ?

    Thank you for your prompt response . What I mentioned concerning about the Drying Processing is suugested by your company acrticles .
    " SNAA214B LMZ1 and LMZ2 Power Module Designe Summary " Texas Instruments Page4 1/19/2016 "
    Now Our customer is getting angry because TI does not make any feedback from this quality issue and something wrong.
    including any TI people .

    Please let me get how to solve this quality issue and answer on Milky leakage after Drying Process due to your summary.

  • Hello Chikwang,

    Page 4 of the application note you mention above describes the bake requirements for parts that did not get mounted within the floor life duration. If the floor life time (device out of the bag) is exceeded, then a bake is required to get any excess moisture out of the package prior to soldering.

    I am not aware of any "milky" leakage during this baking process.

    Could you please attach a picture of what you are observing?

    Without analysis on the actual units, it is very difficult to make any conclusion.

    OK, Let me talk about the investigating process of our customer side as folllows.



    Question 1: “Is the defect for the range : 0~900[㏀] / 2[uF] over) isn’t it?”

    Answer: Are you seeing Vout to GND shorts (0 ohms) on the modules? Or are you seeing open (900kohms)? If the VOUT to GND are shorted then there is a problem. Do the devices that have “leakage” have VOUT to GND short (0 ohms)? You said you have 380 pieces with electrical failure. What test have you run to deduce electrical failure? Have they exhibited VOUT to GND short?





    Answer - Following figure is measured value for 3 point of LMZ23610 under assmbling SMT Procssing with other components when we found some electrical failure.
    Incase of Resistance가 4[Ω] , 6.9[Ω] / Capacitance, our equipment cannot display any value ( maybe infinite value ).
    Therefore, we had to check the capacitance value and resistance value of other pin of LMZ23610 to find the good product among them.
    As we had very stable value of each pin for LMZ 23610 when we bougt the right goods , but this case ( the goods 750pcs we bougt from E2E ) has not been shown stable value as follow.
    it is very big difference from mean value.

    Answer: I am not sure what defects there are. If you are seeing VOUT to GND shorts, do you see them before you solder these devices on the boards? Or do you see them after you solder them on the boards? Or are you seeing them on loose units? If there are no shorts between VOUT and GND do you see some other abnormality?



    Answer - we have used 3 kinds of measureing condition as follows
    1) measured before SMT processing
    2) measured after SMT processing
    3) measured by loading power .
    then, We had found same value from the above three condition .





    Question 3: “If your baking process condition 125 degree / 48 hours or more higher temperature , Does LMZ23610 has thermal shock or internal demage? (Peak Reflow Temperature 245℃)”
    Answer: There shouldn’t be any damage resulting from the baking process.



    Opinion on this issue .

    I'm sure there is relative any thing between your Baking Process and this 750 pcs of TI LMZ23610 delivered on Feb.
    because there was no problem on 28 pcs evaluation sample when this development engineering sage. ( Baking 70 degree under 4hours ).
    But for Mass production stage in this year , we have changed T1 Baking condition ( 125 degree under 48 hours , then, there have started finding mass defects from our line process.
    Then, we have started to sort " good "or " defect" under of above three kinds of measuring investigating by us.
    So, we have found many defects from line process and replace them by New LMZ23610 from other supply Chain source . No more defect is there.
