PTH08T210W design for 1V 10A to 25A Variable supply

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PTH08T250W, PTH08T210W, LM317

hi,

I want to design power supply with 1V output with 10A to 25A variable output current. with

PTH08T210W module.

can anyone help me how to work out

  • The PTH08T210 or any oher module does not have the capability of variable current control. The module design is to source all current from 0-30 Amps as the  demand load requires.

  • Sir,

I want to design a power supply with

    Input : 230V AC with 5A / 15A

    Output: 1V with 10A to 30 A Variable current

Can you suggest any IC for the same.

  • Sir:

This group is the group with power module design. I suggest you contact the TI support group on-line WEB site for this  application.

  • what type of supply in range of 5.5 - 14V for PTH08T210 with what input current levels are to be given

    to take output 1V with variable load current 10 - 35A  ??

  • The PTH08T250W has a input voltage of 4.5V to 14V with output  current  of up to 50 Amps at 1V. It does not have any current control circuitry. It is a current demand module with no control over the current limiting function.

  • Sir thanks for clarifying my previous questions, the Technical support from India by e-mail is not responding me quickly!!

    Can i input 12V , 1A to PTH08T210W to get 1V , 30A output. i.e.

Can I input 12V, 1A from simple LM317 and give it to PTH08T210W to get 1V, 30A output?

If not suggest me how to input violtage to PTH08T210W. or what can be the input power to PTH08T210W??

I am confused because i am thinking how do such a small module can handle 30A current with low input power!!

Please clarify and help me I will be grateful to you !!

  • Sir:

The input power  with 12Vin and 1A from the power source is = to 12W (12V x1A).

    The 30A at 1V = 30W output power  is (1V x30A)

In order to derive  30W output  power from any power supply, the input power must be greater than the output power . The must formula (Power=Voltage x Current ) .

The efficiency of the power supply  is directly a function of ( power dissipation within the power supply) . There are always transfer power losses in any power line/ system. It can never be 100% or greater efficiency

Efficiency   = Power out/ power In  .     PTH08T210W published efficiency is 80% for 1V at 30A identified in the  data sheet. The efficiency of the 1Vout= 80%.

    The power out put =30W (1Vx30A).     Input power = 12V x unknown Amps ( current )  input current= Power out(30w/Vin(12V x 0.8(80% efficiency)=3.125A input current .

    The input current required to have a 30W( 1V x30A) output power = 3.125Amps

  • You will need a different LDO than a 1A LM317 because that power module is 84% efficient at 1V. You will need at least 3A at 12V  (7A at 5V in case you are thinking universal AC to DC).

  • The linear regulator is sent to the non-isolated power forum.
