Power supply newbie question.

Hello.

I want to design a switching power supply with Vin=9V to 20V, and Vout=15V@1A, and I don’t need an isolated supply. This will be used in an automotive environment and be plugged into the cigarette lighter socket, where the voltage can range from 12V nominal to 14V. Plugging in the numbers into Webench I get 3 possible varieties. Sepic, Buck/Boost, andFlyback.

Because I don’t need any isolation I think that can exclude the flyback type?? As I’m new to this type of power supply design, what would be the best choice from here, Buck/Boost or Sepic, and what are the differences? What considerations do I need to know so I can make an informed decision?

Cheers

Katse.
