LMZ22003 ProtoTyping

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMZ22003

I want to use a LMZ2203 for a motor drive circuit I am designing.  What would i need to do in order prototype my circuit seeing that the LMZ22003 is a surface mount device? I have no experience with Surface Mount devices.

  • Hello Dachota,

To mount the LMZ22003, I suggest using a hot air rework station and solder paste.  The purpose of the solder paste is to be able to solder the bottom DAP of the LMZ22003 to the board effectively(also the leads).  The hot air rework station also aids in heating the exposed metal of the footprint effeciently.  If you are planning to get a hot air rework station, make sure it has an adjustable air flow and temperature control.  Also, make sure the temperature can go up to 800 degrees farenheit, so it can cover other soldering needs(leaded and unleaded).  For the process, please reference this video.

It  may not be the same device, but the technique and process is the same.  If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
