External synchronization LMR14050 and others

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMR14050

Hello all,

the datasheet for the LMR14050 says the maximum frequency it can be externally synchronized to is 2.3MHz. I noticed this also to be the case in all data sheets of 2.5Mhz max switching frequency buck controllers by TI. What is the reason for this, or can these, and specifically the LMR14050 be practically synchronized to a 2.5MHz clock ?

Thank you,

Thomas

PS: The reason I want to synchronize to this particular clock is to control the harmonic spectrum of the switching noise.

  • Thomas,
2.3MHz is the mximum recommended operation frequency. Sure you can sync to 2.5MHz external clock, however you should take thermal and minimum on-time into account for normal operation. Too high frequency may result in high temp rise, ton_min is also a limitation for high ratio Vin/Vo conversion application at high frequency.
