Dears,

Is there any TI power solution which can support dynamic output current  adjust while the output voltage is fixed?

My customer wants to design for the adjustable power management purpose.

  • Can you help us understand how you are planning to adjust the output current? To my understand, most standard power supplies regulate the output voltage at a fixed set point, as long as load current is within the range.

    For example of below case, I have 19V DC power supply as main power source input and there are 2 power trace on my system, one is for system loading and one is for USB charging.

    What I want to do is, for normal case, the system loading and USB charging is work fine at same time!

    While system needs heavy loading and I will decrease the USB charging current and the system will get more current to work.

    After that, everything will return back to normal situation.

    Did you have any suggestions or method for such design?

    Your request is for a system power budget design. We cannot offer you a complete solution for that. I am assuming the 19VDC is the output of a DCDC regulator which gets loaded periodically and also provides USB charging. Any regulator in the SIMPLE SWITCHER family of devices will be able to regulate the output voltage while the load current is within the operating range. E.g for the LM43603 the load current maximum is 3A. When the current increases beyond that, the LM43603 cannot maintain the designed output voltage.

    For your requirements, you could sense the loading current and compare it to a preset threshold. Upon system loading you could use that information to throttle your USB charging current.
