LM2735 short circuit protection

Hi all,

I have a question about how could we protect the LM2735 and its components L1 / D1 from a short circuit on the load side.

The circuit used is the typical one :

Vin = 5V

Vout = 12V,100mA

At the beginning I use a CTP (LITTELFUSE 2016L030DR) for that purpose at the output side, but this cause a voltage drop due to the CTP itself.

So, to avoid this voltage drop, could I put the fuse in the input side ? Is this solution efficient ? Any drawback ?

All advice would be welcome.

Hi Carlos,

Actually, I think that you could put it on the input side. The drawback would be that your input current is dependent on your input voltage so the choice of the PTC would have to take into account the worst case scenario. Also, because of the voltage drop, your practical minimum operating voltage will drop.
