Hello Sir

Firstly i would like to thanks you for these forum. I am Panagiotis a Hardware power electronics engineer in Valeo in France and i would like to ask you a question because we are using your component.

I want to try to burn this component(LM5574/LM5574-Q1) and create an artificial fire. Is very difficult because is a smart component with a lot of protections. My objective is to blow it up creating a embedded circuit in order to inject power.

Is that possible? Are there any methods that i can do it? I have not access to the gate of mos because is integrated inside? Can i destroy it some how in linear mode?

Until now the only think i can do is try to heat it using the reverse diode mode.

Moving to the Simple Switcher forum. I can comment though. Usually a sure way to destroy the IC is to provide a large over voltage condition on VIN. I think 100 V may be sufficient.

Yes i know. But this will lead to an open circuit failure of the component. On the other hand we want to find a way to put it in a high impedance short circuit where the component would heat and eventually create a high power dissipation area

Usually OV EOS will cause the metal layers to flash over and create a short, not an open unless the bond wires fuse.

Yes, i agree with John that an overvoltage condition will damage the IC and cause the IC to blow up.

Even a ringing on the input voltage (VIN) above max spec will do it

Hello,

Yes i validated it in the lab. I limited the current in the input, and with an additional resistance in the input I achieved to burn the back, rising slowly the voltage. Now I am able to inject power on my PCB board to study a hazardous thermal effect.
