TPS3619 in series

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS3619

Hi E2E Community!

I have a scenario where I need not only one backup battery source, but two backup sources

My question is what kind of issues can be expected if connecting two TPS3619 together like illustrated below?

The primary source should be V_MAIN. IF V_MAIN fails, V_BACKUP should take over and finally if both V_MAIN and V_BACKUP fail the backup battery should take over.

Does anyone have experience with similar scenarios or alternative suggestions?

  • Hi Jonathan,

What is the load current for this? The only problem I could see is that you can lose quite a bit of voltage between the two of them, up to 250mV when running on the battery backup at 7.5mA. If that is a problem, you should put a low Iq LDO from Vout to Vcc on your final circuit - I would suggest the TPS782XX LDO for its really low Iq if that is the case.

    Regards,

    David
