TPS3779 Overdrive

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS3779

I have a question concerning TPS3779 dual channel voltage sensor.

The datasheet defines in page 12 the VDD overdrive.

However, in graphs 16 to 19, the VDD is constant but the overdrive isnt'.

How could it be? Is the overdrive defined for the SENSE input?

  • Hi Eli,

The overdrive is given by the voltage difference of the comperator input.  The bigger difference of the this signal to the internal reference is, the bigger the gate signal will be. The bigger the gate signal is, the faster the FETs are able to switch.

The formula you find under 9.1.1 was developed for an example, were the SENSEx were tied to VDD. So if you want to calculate your overdrive in the case they are not tied together you can use following formula:

    Best regards,
