TPS3808-Q1: /RESET Pin Sink Current Range

Part Number: TPS3808-Q1

Hello,

TPS3808-Q1's data sheet specifies on page 3 the range of 10 kΩ to 1 MΩ as a pull-up resistor of /RESET pin. Is it OK to use a different value? I assume it's no problem as long as the /RESET pin's sink current won't exceed its absolute Max rating of 5 mA or a voltage drop caused by IOH (/RESET leakage current) running through the pull-up resistor won't affect the pin's high level voltage.

By the way, how should I understand the description on page 3 "..., and allows the reset pin to attain voltages higher than VDD." I'm not quite sure what it means.

Best regards,
Shinichi Yokota

  • Shinichi,

    Statement 1:
Your understanding is correct. As long as the abs max rating isn't exceeded and the voltage drop with the specific resistor due to the leakage current is ok then you can use a different value resistor.

    Statement 2:
This means the RESET pin can be pulled to a voltage higher than VDD (if you use two separate supplies for VDD and RESET output) as long as the RESET is below the recommended operating condition of 6.5V.

Please let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks!
