TPS3707: PFI comparator, Can you add external hysteresis?

Part Number: TPS3707
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS3808

Since the PFI/PFO feature of the TPS3707 looks like a simple comparator with a threshold of 1.25V, is there any issue with adding positive feedback from PFO to PFI to add external hysteresis? I know the PFI comparator has 10 mV of hysteresis built in, but application might need more than this.

  • Mark,

I know that adding hysteresis via an external feedback resistor is a common use case with supervisors. Please see Adding Hysteresis app note: www.ti.com/.../slva360.pdf

The device in the app note example is the TPS3808 and when I compared to the internal block diagram of the TPS3707, the only difference between the internal comparators appears to be the TPS3808 uses negative feedback configuration while the TPS3707 has the PFI comparator in the positive feedback configuration. The TPS3707 in the positive feedback configuration will behave like a non-inverting Schmitt trigger with the hysteresis set by the feedback resistor.
