TPS386000: Can SENSE inputs be powered when VCC is 0V?

Part Number: TPS386000

When the card is powered down, VCC will be at zero. However, one of the voltages being sensed is battery backed and will still be present. It is 3.0V that is divided down via a resistive divider of 15.4K & 2.74V providing about 0.5V on SENSE3 while VCC is 0V. Is it OK to have voltages on the SENSE input when VCC is not powered and if so, will there be leakage current that flows from the SENSE input to VCC that could start charging up bypass caps on the VCC bus?

  • As long as the ABS MAX input specs are maintained, there will be no damage if SENSE comes up before VDD. SENSE can have up to 7V at the pin even if VDD is 0V. The leakage into SENSE pin is typically 1 nA but this does not directly leak to VDD. The VDD caps should not charge up with VDD is 0V.

Please let me know if you have any more questions or need any additional support. Thank you!
