A Supervisor Function Check

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS3890

Hi

My customer would like to design a boost with UVP function.

They want to use a Supervisor to disable the boost output if boost have OCP fault.

But during normal start, they want to disable the supervisor to enable the boost device.

Please see the sequence below

Thanks!

  • Hisen,

Typically, we connect the MCU to the supervisor, and the supervisor to the enable of the Boost. The supervisor is for controlling devices, not for powering devices. This is why the Boost should be at the output and the supervisor simply enables/disables the Boost. And upon power up, the supervisor can have delayed start up or you can power the supervisor from the MCU power rail.

We have supervisors for undervoltage, overvoltage, overcurrent, or even watchdog monitoring to check status of MCU. I recommend starting with TPS3890 which is a programmable threshold, programmable delay, and manual reset (enable/disable feature) voltage supervisor for monitoring undervoltage conditions.
