TPS386000: Unused Watchdog Pins WDI & WDO Connection

Part Number: TPS386000

Hi,

We are not planning to use the watchdog function of TPS386000. I'm not sure what to do with WDI pin. Even if I pull it up or down, this seems to trigger the RESET1 output based on WDT. We are connecting a voltage input to SENSE1 and don't want unwanted RESETs at this pin. Please suggest.

Thanks & Regards

Muthu A

  • understood. that's the WDT timer reset from RESET1 line. Thanks
  • Mutha A,

So after bench confirmation, the WDI pin can be left floating if not being used. The result of leaving WDI floating is that /WDO will be active and “low”. /WDO should be left floating if not using the watchdog. RESET1 is unaffected by the WDI and WDO but if you do use the watchdog, when /WDO goes active, /WDO will remain active and “low” until /RESET1 is triggered then released or if VDD is removed and reapplied.

In other words, WDI and /WDO can both be left floating if not using the watchdog. If you do use the watchdog, /WDO latches on a WDI trigger until /RESET is active then deactivated by either SENSE1, /MR, or VDD.

I hope this answers your question. Let me know if anything is unclear. Thanks!
