How to debug when software won't load?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD90120A

I am getting the following error message:

An error occured while trying to detect a PMBus device. The error was:
Failed to create device UCD90120A object at address 52: Error reading the device value for SEQ_CONFIG [MFR 38,0xF6,Rail #11] at TIDP.PMBus.PMBusDevice.l(ah A_0, IEnumerable`1 A_1, an A_2) at TIDP.PMBus.PMBusDevice.l(aj A_0) at TIDP.PMBus.WinForms.Forms.a.nu()
Please check your device firmware, power, and USB connection.

And then the software exits. This makes it very difficult to "check your device firmware".

Is there other software besides Fusion Digital Power Designer that will not exit on this error and allow me to "check your device firmware"?

  • I came across this kind of error when the 3.3V power (referenced to board ground) and USB adapter power (referenced to PC ground) do not share the same ground. The problem was solved by tying PC ground and board ground together. Or, if your board have this configuration, you can disable the external 3.3V power (from board), and use the USB adapters's 3.3V output (from PC) to power the PMBus and device, and see if it solves the problem. The adapter's 3.3V output comes out of PMBus connector Pin5.
