Thank you advance for your help.

I am using the UCD9090 power sequencer. Is there any reason that I need the brownout functionality enabled in order to allow future on-board programming via the I2C bus? From the datasheet, my understanding is that the brownout feature simply allows us to write to flash upon loss of power only, rather than periodically during normal operation.

The brownout is not related to I2C communication. But we still recommend the brownout circuit to avoid data corruption in the event of power loss.

I don't care about the fault logging/clock/etc. data that the brownout feature writes. As long as the configuration registers don't get corrupt (i.e., the device still boots properly when power is re-applied), that's all we care about. Is there any risk to the configuration portions of memory?

It is very rare, but there has been a few incidents reported that configuration data is lost during frequent hot-unplug. So far we couldn't reproduce the problem. But for precautions we suggest add the brownout circuit.
