UCD9081: Reasons for sequencer programming memory loss ?

Part Number: UCD9081
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD90120A

Hello there,

I have a customer who is experiencing some issues with his UCD9081RHBR power sequencer. The device was programmed, functioned fine in their system and then lost it's memory. They needed to remove the card and reprogram it to have it work as it did previously. We just want to understand under what circumstances does the UCD9081 sweep it's memory so we can avoid it?

Appreciate your feedack!

-Amanda

  • Hi Amanda

The user configuraiton is stored at FLASH and device will not sweep its memory.

Could you please help to collect more information:

    1. how many case do you see?

    2. did they hook the bad board to TI GUI via dongle to do a check?

    Regards

    Yihe

  • Hello Yihe, Thanks so much for your response. We have only seen this happen once but would still like to understand why. And yes they hooked the board up to the GUI to find that the memory had been cleared and that they needed to reprogram. Does the UCD9081 possibly share hardware or the same internal architecture as the UCD90120A/160?
  • I do not believe they share the same memory architecture so this must be related to something else.

Is there a state that the IC can enter which from the outside viewer makes it seem as though it has lost it's memory (where it presents itself as an unprogrammed part), like may a reset state? What could possibly trigger a reset outside of the /RST pin? I checked their schematic and made sure /RST was configured correctly with them using a 100k pull-up and a 0.01uF cap to ground on that pin.

Also, what is the write cycle limit on storing that config to flash?

Appreciate any assistance you can offer,
    -Amanda
  • Hi Amanda

Yes, UCD9081 has total different hardware platform.

Do they have a snapshot of the GUI screen when they found the memory are clear?

When the problem is present, did they read the STATUS registor of UCD9081? is Param bit set?

Also if the fault log is not empty, the UCD9081 may not start the sequencing until the fault log is clear. Is this the case they were seeing?

The flash program cycle is at least 10^4 cycle.

    Regards
