UCD90120A: UCD90120A i2C

Part Number: UCD90120A

we are planning to use a UCD90120A for a design, for initial programming we will use the TI USB-TO-GPIO cable but after the intital programming we would like to connect to the UCD90120A through i2C with our on-board uP. Is it correct to just connect the PMBUS_CLK to SCL and PMBUS_DATA to SDA like a normal i2C part?  I found a note in the UCD90120A data sheet that says to use the i2C the clock and data lines must be multiplexed or the device addresses must be assigned by socket, i don't have the ability to multiplex the signals so i am wondering if i will be able to connect the USB-to_gpio, select the socket and then directly connect the PMBUS_CLK and PMBUS_DATA to my i2C bus?

  • yes, UCD90120A is fully compliant with I2C. you can connect the PMBUS_SCL/SDA of UCD90120A to your uP without USB-TO_GPIO dongle,

USB_TO_GPIO dongle is required since Fusion Power Digital Designer GUI is built based on it.  but your uP can use i2c bus to communicate with UCD90120A.
