UCD90160A: No start after Reset

Part Number: UCD90160A

Hello,

I have a problem with the Power Manager.

When I load a file to the Power Manager that runs perfect on other cards.

After loading the File into the Power Manager I make a reset to start the Power Manager new. But after the reset the Power Manager will not start the sequense.

But if I start the Fusion Desinger and the Fusion Desinger is searching for an available Power Manager, the sequense will satrt and the Power Manager works fine.

Do you have an idea why the PM not started after reset. In the Log Files there are no faults.

Thank for help

Christian Günther

  • Could you share the file? If it is confidential, you can forward to local TI  FAE?

It seems that the device was not properly programmed with the file before you reset. I need the file to further debug.

    Thanks

  • PM1_SN10004_GOOD8.xmlPM2_SN10004_GOOD8.xml Hello Yihe,

    thanks for the quick reply.

    Short description of the issue.

We have 5 Cards, all the same. We use for all cards the same Files (Power Manager)

On 4 Cards if we make a reset to the Power Managers and after the reset all 4 Card started normally.

On the 5th card when I do the same reset, the card do not start.... But if I start the Fusion Designer on the PC (PC is connected via USB to the UCD90160A Development Kid and from there via I2C to the PowerManager ) after searching the PowerManager on the Card started normally and work. I don't know why.....

What I also see in the STATUS_CML I get a Warning for "Invallid Command" and "Invalid Data" what is the meaning of these two Warnings

I want to  attached you two smal Videos that shows the behavior of the Powermanager. But the Files are to big

Maybe you have a other way that I can send you the video

I attached also the two Files for the PowerManager.

If you need futher information please let me know.

    Thanks for your help

    regards

    Christian

  • recover UCD90160A from ROM mode.docxHi Christian
thanks. You used projects file to program the device. it is little bit off what I suspected.
after you launch the GUI, the device starts working automatically without another downloading file. Is this right?
if so, the device may be under ROM mode. Could you try the attached file? If after step 3, the GUI reports that ROM was found, please continue the remaining steps.

As for the videos, you can forward the request to Russell W so that he can help.

  • Hello Yihe,

thank you very much for your help.

Now the Power Manager works as he should....

What I don't understand, what is the reason for this behaviour? On four cards the PM works fine and on one card I have with behavior... stange.

What must I do that this behaviour not comes up once again?

    regards

    Christian

  • Hi Christian

There is a special command(ROM_MODE, 0xD9)  which can force the device into ROM mode. it is possible that that command is issued accidently?

    1. please check to make sure that 0xD9 command is not used.

    2. When sending command, host always adds Packaging Error Check(PEC) byte at the end to avoid any i2c signal integrity issue.

    Regards
