    Per the TPS3823-33 datasheet, "Leaving WDI unconnected disables the watchdog". You can use your uP with open, or tri-stated GPIO to disable the watchdog. To enable watchdog ( WDI ), simply configure the GPIO to drive a logic high and low to the WDI pin.

    As long as you toggle the WDI low to high or high to low within the Ttout time specified in the datasheet, the TPS3820 will operate properly without generating an active low /RESET signal. If you wait longer than Ttout, the /RESET output will go low.

    I assume you are asking about the wording in the Description paragraph on page two of the datasheet. This means that you can NOT apply a changing WDI signal to the TPS3820 if the IC is in reset.     Hi Calum, Have you looked into the TPS3823? This device can be disabled by open-circuiting the WDI pin, it can be stobed 20ms to avoid reset (Ttimeout=0.9s), minimum temperature -40 degC, and has MR pin. Below is the product page. http://www.ti.com/product/tps3823-25 Regards, Darwin
