TPS2660: Thermal simulation

Hi,

We got a question from customer about TPS2660.
Could you help us?

[Question]
They want to estimate the size of RTN plane under the following condition. Could you provide thermal simulation data?

 Vin=24V
 Iout=800mA
 Ilim=1.4A

They are planning the size is harf of EVM RTN plane. Is it enough the size?

    Hi Tateo-san,

    For 800mA load current design, thermal resistance should not be an issue at all. Max Pd = 0.8*0.8*0.21 = 0.1344W. With half the RTN plane, the thermal resistance should be in the order of 60c/w. This results in temperature rise of 0.16*60 = 8 degree only.

    At a ambient of 85 degree C, Tj will be at approximately 93 C and this is safe.
