TPS24711 datasheet question check!!!

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS24711, TPS24710

Hi Team,

My customer is evaluating our TPS24711 and the future potential volume is 100ku/y. These is one question when reading our datasheet that I want to check with you:

In the page 19 of our datasheet, we have below description as highlighted in yellow color, "after which the TPS24710/11/12/13 turns back on slowly", here turns back slowly is not very detailed and can't find more detail for this, can you help provide more detailed about this, for example how long will it(min and maximum time). If relevant waveform for explanation can be provided, that will be better for understanding, thanks.

Best regards,

Sulyn Zhang

  • Hi Sulyn,

My apologies for the delay but this question may have slipped past our team.

After a fast trip, the gate will turn on using the charge pump's / GATE's sourcing current which is 30uA typical.

So the time it takes to turn back on will depend on the MOSFET gate charge / capacitance as well as whether the device will be in current limit or power limit during startup.

If the device does not go into current limit of power limit and the fast trip was just a glitch, the time would be I = culombs / second --> time = columbs / I = 100nC (for example) / 20uA = 5ms.

However, the time will probably be impacted by current limit, power limit, and the output capacitance and follow equation 11 in the datasheet (Application example STEP 4 on page 27, section 9.2.2.1.4).

Otherwise if the fault is still present after the fast trip shutdown (such as a short circuit on the output), the GATE will reach the threshold of the MOSFET (maybe 2V or 3V) and then regulate in a constant power limit for the duration of the fault timer, then shut off.

    Thanks!
