TPS4H160-Q1: TPS4H160-Q1 Thermal Dissipation Using All 4 Channels Together

Part Number: TPS4H160-Q1

Hello,

We want to use the TPS4H160-Q1 in an application where we need to guarantee 20A current for 10 msec.
If we use all 4 channels together, it looks like we can support 6.5A per channel current limit near thermal limit X 4 channels = 26A.

We’re concerned with the power dissipation of the device.
The Rds_on_max at high temp is 280 m-Ohm.
If we were to have 5A per channel, then we would dissipate = 28W for 10 msec.
Power = Current ^2 x R = 5 x 5 x 0.28 = 7 watts
7 watts x 4 channels = 28W for 10 msec.

Is it possible for the TPS4H160-Q1 to support this much current for a short time with good PCB thermal relief design?

Thank you, Keith
