TPS25944A: ORing car 12V Battery with 14 vdcin adaptor

Hello All,

I want to use Car battery 12v and wall adapter 14v dc as input and one or two AUX output that can limit current up to 5 A  , I thought I can use two - tps 25944a as Input ORing and one  tps 25944a as Aux circuit that adjusted to max 5 amp .

so do you think this way could practical in case OR two PSU with different voltage (Battery voltage will vary between 14 to 10 v) ? (Dont want to use discreet circuit)

and what's low cost and not discreet solution to Monitor output and limit it to predefined value acting like circuit breaker in case of short circuit and Over loading ?

    Hi Reza,

    In ORing configuration, the higher supply voltage will appear at the output. If the two supply voltages are very close, they will share the load.

    Do you want to prioritize adapter supply over battery ? In that case please look at "Figure 79. Priority Power Multiplexing Implementation" in www.ti.com/.../tps25942a.pdf

    TPS25944A has fixed 4ms circuit breaker timeout. If the load current exceeds set limit, this device serves load only for 4ms before getting into shutdown.
    Can you please let me know more on your application and end equipment.? Do you want to limit current during overload /short circuit events? or do you want to change current limit setting during system operation?

    Actually I work on Lead Acid-Battery charger project that has two Aux ( 2 Amp and other 5 Amp with 12 volt) and need that AUX circuit act like circuit breaker whenever short circuit or overload more than 2 or 5 amp appeared on aux?

    Yes Priority is on DC wall Adapter that capable to switch to Battery when Wall Adapter is off

    Hi Reza,

    TPS25944A can do job here. The current limit (2A or 5A) can be set through Rilim resistor at ILIM pin.
