TPS25942A: Can TPS25942A be used for an application with bi-direction current flowing?

Part Number: TPS25942A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25940

 Hello guys,

One of our customers is considering using TPS25942A for battery protection.

At this moment, they have the following questions. Could you give me the answers or any comment?

Q1, Can TPS25942A protect an overcurrent for bi-direction?

Q2. Is TPS25940 better than TPS25942 for the application?

Q3. What are different points between TPS25940 and 25942?

Your reply would be much appreciated.

 Best regards,

 Kazuya Nakai.

  • Hi guys,

    Let me add more information.
The customer requirements are the follow.
    1. IC breakdown voltage more than 13V.
    2. The maximum current is 3A.
    3. Bi-direction current protection and switching (on/off) are needed.
    4. Current or Voltage rising/falling speed control function is needed.

    Your reply would be appreciated.

    Best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai.
  • Hi Kazuya Nakai,

    Thanks for reaching out!.
what is the end equipment here? Is this going to be placed in series with battery charger?
Unfortunately, both TPS25940 and TPS25942A can not support bi-direction current flow. These devices has integrated reverse voltage (Vout to Vin) cutoff to block reverse current.

  • Hi Rakesh,

Thank you for your prompt reply. The application is an information display for various data using LED. Yes, you are correct. They are considering placing it in series with battery charger to hold the display data during blackout situation.
If you have any device which suits the application, could you please let me know?

    Thank you and best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai.
