TPS2115: Current limit behavior

Part Number: TPS2115

When the load is exceeding the current limit protection, what is the beahvior of the device ?

Is the devcie latched in OFF state and   the output is kept OFF ?

or

- once current limit is exceed the internal mosfet is driven in linear mode keeping the max current defined by the selected protection range

- once current limit is achieved the device turn off the internal mosfet , than it is cycling ON/OFF ?

Thanks

  • Hi Daniele,

As the load exceeds the current limit protection, the TPS2115 goes into a constant mode that limits the current to a set value. The output voltage will dip slightly when the current limit is passed, but should return to normal as the current drops back below the limit.

Keep in mind that going over the current limit can produce a significant amount of heat in the device. If the thermal limit is reached, the output will shut down completely until the temperature returns to acceptable conditions.

    Thanks,
    Arthur Huang
