TPS2490: Prog Spec

Part Number: TPS2490

Hi

My customer has question.

The Prog terminal is specified as 0.4V to 4V.
Is it a problem if it is 0.4 V or less?
Customers set Prog = 0.4 V or less, and we have to consider the risk.
Please Cooperate us.

Best Regard

  • T Kishi,

The program pin can be set to < 0.4v, but Power Limit accuracy will be reduced.  The best thing to do is to use the design calc tool at www.ti.com/hotswap and assure that there is plenty of margin wrt SOA with the program setting you are using.  If < 0.4v, make sure the margin is well over 1.30 that the spreadsheet calls for and assuming that the realized Plim isn't precise as it would be if in 0.v4 to 4v range.  If over 0.4v, 1.30 is suffcient.  The other item to watch is that Vsns > 5mv at the power limit setting selected.  If right at 5mv and you are at Prog = 0.2v, you would be in danger of the offset voltage of the current sense amp not detecting a real needed Plim or of it detecting Plim too soon (its +/-).  This could result in circuit fail or nusiance shutoff at power up.  If well over 5mv, say 8-10mv, it will not be any concern.
