LM5051: Replacement for schottky diode

Part Number: LM5051
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5050-1

Hi everyone,

I'm working on some linear battery charger and I want to replace my schottky diodes (D3 and D4) with mosfet. When I check the EV board of LM5051, I'm a little confused for right connection. I attached my schematic below, would you tell me,

1)What is the correct connection for LINE pin of LM5051 ? Should I connect with GND? Because when I check the EVM, it connected with GND.

2)What should be the right direction of mosfet pin ? I added label Con-1 & Con-2 to the mosfet drain and source for explanation.

Thanks!

  • Hi Alikaan,

LM5051 is used for low side ORing application where the power supply is negative (example -48V) and will not work for positive voltage application.

For the battery charging application schematic show here, LM5050-1 is the right device.

Con1 connects to the Anode of the diode and Con2 connects to the Cathode of diode.

    Regards,

    Kari.
