TPS22976: Can TPS22976N be used as a power lane selector which selects one power lane from 2 power lane (For example, 3.3V and 5V) ?

Part Number: TPS22976
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2115A

 Hello guys,

One of our customers wants to use TPS22976N as a power lane selector from 2 power lane inputs. They think the device can be used for it with shorting VOUT1 and VOUT2 terminal and applying 5V to VIN1 and 3.3V to VIN2 . Is their thinking correct?

If it is not correct, could you please tell me any device which can be used as a power lane selector?

Your reply or comment would be appreciated.

 Best regards,

 Kazuya Nakai.

  • Hi Kazuya,

The TPS22976 would not work as a power lane selector because it does not have reverse current blocking enabled. Therefore, if the 5V supply was powering the output, reverse current would flow across the body diode of the other channel and into the 3.3V source.

To take a look at our power muxing options with load switches, please refer to this app note. We also have the TPS2115A device that can be used as a single chip solution.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Alek,

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I see. I will recommend them to use TPS2115A.

By the way, could I ask you a question about TPS22976? You said the device doesn't have a reverse current blocking function. But it seems that the device has a reverse current protection as shown by Figure 9 in the device datasheet (SLVSB39A). According to the Figure9, the reverse current which the function works is not small. So I think you didn't recommend me to use TPS22976N for power lane selector. Is my understanding correct?

Thank you again and best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai.
  • Hi Alek,
I'm sorry I mis-understood about TPS22976N function and the previous mail is not correct. You don't need to reply my previous question. I will recommend the customer to use TPS2115A.

    Thank you and best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai.
  • Hi Kazuya,

I understand, and feel free to post any questions on the TPS2115A in a separate thread. This way the part will be linked correctly.

    Thanks,
