TPS1H100-Q1: max inrush current at 200mA current limitation setting

Part Number: TPS1H100-Q1

Hello, I want to use a TPS1H100 as HSS (high-side-switch) for a power over coax application using FPD-linkIII. My question is related to the inrush current because I did not found details in the datasheet.

If I set the internal current limitaion to 200mA, what will be the max current peak and max duration before the current limitaion setting is switching of the HSS?

An example how to estimate would be great.

Thanks

Andreas

  • Hello,

The TPS1H100-Q1 current limit is recommended to be higher than 500mA. Does the application need continuous load current monitoring? Or open drain for current over current detection is good enough? At this power level I suggest to use TPS1H000. The current limit accuracy at 200mA is less than 15%.

  • Hello,

for my application I need the load current monitoring for diagnosis. My question is more related to the inrush current during switching on a load. How does the switch behave when the inrush current is about 3 or 4 times over the limit current setting? See initial question.

    Regards

  • Hello Andreas,

Attached scope picture showing the over current behavior. Set up conditions:

Vs = 13.5V, current limit set at 200mA, Load current is set and enabled the device by switching IN low to high.

CH1 is OUTPUT voltage, CH2 is IN voltage and CH4 is the current.

There is some time response for the current limit circuit of few microseconds and after that the current will be regulated to the current limit set. You can see some oscillation because the current is limited to 200mA and it is below the recommended value of 500mA.

    Regards,
