LM5050-1: use for negative power rail

Part Number: LM5050-1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23525, TPS23523, LM5067

Hi,

If use LM5050-1 for -48V power rail, all I need is connect ground to IN(pin 4)and connect -48V to GND(pin 2), am I right?

  • Hi Chung,

    Thanks for reaching out!
What is your requirement and end product? Hotswap or ORing for -48V rail.
If it is -48V hotswap, look at LM5067. For ORing, look at TPS23523, TPS23525 devices.

  • Hi Rakesh,

Thanks for your advise, I will use the ORing for -48V.

But may I know that what if use LM5050 for -48V? Is it only different at High/Low side driver?
    Thank you very much.
  • Hi Chung,

Though, we have not tested LM5050 for -48V rail but the device should work when ground is applied at IN(pin 4)and -48V applied at GND(pin 2). Because, this configuration does not make any violation between Vin, Vout, GATE, Vs pins to gnd pin voltage for the device. Still this configuration is a high side driver.

Note LM5050 is not suitable for ORing -ve rails. Treat it as ideal diode for your system analysis and let me know if you have any questions/ need further clarification.

    Best Regards
    Rakesh
