LM74610-Q1: MOSFET Vgs Requirements

Part Number: LM74610-Q1

Hi,

This is potentially a good looking part for our application OR'ing 2 supplies at ~5V and 12-24V.

For the supply rail that can be up to 24V: Not knowing exactly what's going on internally with the Gate Drive and Gate Pull Down pins - to be safe my natural inclination is to choose a MOSFET that could tolerate being at least as low as GND on the Gate while still having 24V on its Source, in other words requiring a MOSFET rated for Vgs of -25 or -30 V. However FETs with those ratings also tend to have higher Vgs thresholds and Vgs for minimum Rdson (which is very important for our application)... and this part appears to only generate a Gate voltage nominally 5V above the Source V when the MOSFET is supposed to be fully turned on. So we're wondering if this part guarantees or controls how much below the Vin/Anode/Source voltage the Gate voltage can possible be?

Some cases where this might be an issue:

#1 - During power up when voltage first appears on the Vin/Anode/MOSFET Source rail.

#2 - During an event when the Gate Pull Down functionality is being asserted.

But there may be other cases when the Gate V will be lower than the Source V. Does this part control/guarantee the maximum negative MOSFET Vgs? And if so what is that value?

Thanks!

Matt
