Hello,

Can we use the chip BQ500110 in any other wireless solution (for industrial/serial/mass production), or it has to be implented only in devices (solutions) that are described in Qi standard?

Do we have to pay anny licence fees to WPC (Qi) if we use TI -BQ500110 chip due to implanted firmware in the chip?

Can you recommend any chip that is similar to BQ500110 but can be programmed thats suits our solutions?

Kind Regards  Janez Krašovec

    Hello Janez,

Thank you for showing interest in the BQ500110.  The part can be used in other wireless power applications.  You will still need using the commands defined by WPC standard to make your solution working.  The operating frequency range will be limited to 110kHz--205kHz.  The WPC 1.0 Part 1 is a public domain.  All license fees are incorporated in the part price.  The use of Qi logo is limited only to products that passed WPC qualification and verification and to companies associated with WPC.  You do not need to pass such qualification if you are not interested in using Qi logo on your product.

    Mr. Muratov,

we have another question about the switching frequency. Is the frequency determined by the BQ500110 chip (oscillator-110-205kHz) or is there the posibility to change the switching frequency?

We use Bq500110 EVM-688 and we would like to meassure efficency of power transfer by different frequencies but we did not find the possibilitiy to change the frequency.

Ist there a possibility to change the frequency?

What are the parameters written in bq500110 chip that we are not allowed to (or we can not ) change due to the Qi protocol?

    Kind regards Janez Krašovec

    Hello Janez,

Frequency is not arbitrary set by the controller.  Frequency is function of load and coupling between coils.  There is no other means to change the frequency.

By varying the frequency the output voltage gets regulated.

The part is made to support the WPC spec that sets frequency boundaries.

The part is sold as is and no alterations to firmware are supported by TI.

May you provide more details why are you interested in changing operating frequency range?

    Regards,

    Vlad
