I’ve got a couple of general Qs from a customer regarding BQTesla 150
note: board = transmitter (like
Q---What is the efficiency of charging? Is it really 70% for BQTesla 150 solution?
Ans---The bq51013 is a 5V power supply, other devices are required to support charging. But the total bqTESLAlp kit efficiency from +19V power into transmitter to 5V out of receiver 5V output is in the 70% to 75% range. See figure 8 in receiver user’s guide, www.ti.com/litv/pdf/slvu447
Q---Can you put more devices on one board?
Ans---No, due to communications requirement only one receiver device can operate on a transmitter at one time.
Q---Can the board communicate w/ more than one device lying on board?
Q---Is this wireless charging solution standalone (so that there is no need to attached MCU)?
Ans---Yes, no additional code or programming is required.
Q---Can send and receive data about charging status and conditions?
Ans—The present chip set will not support additional information on the receiver to transmitter data stream. Note there is no data transferred from transmitter to receiver.
Q---What’s the communication protocol between transmitter and receiver?
Ans---This is defined in the WPC 1.0 specification, see link in the FAQ section.
Q---Do we have 3rd parties who can help customer design transmitter and receiver coils?
Ans---See FAQ section for coil vendors. The transmitter coil design is fixed by the WPC specification. The receiver coil design is flexible; coil used on the EVM is available.
Q---Do we have reference design for transmitter and receiver – incl. layout that they can just copy?
Ans---Yes both bqTESLA150lp transmitter and receiver EVMs are reference designs that can be used. Gerber files are available in the bqTESLA150lp folder.
