BQ51013A vs BQ51013B about EPT01

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ51013B, BQ51013A, BQ500212A, BQ51003

Dear Tier.

When I try to test EPT01 packet using TS-CTRL by External Logic High, I can see something different behaviour between BQ51013A and BQ51013B.

In BQ51013A, BQ500212A - LED MODE2 - turns on Solid Green.

But in BQ51013B, there is no LED lighting.

Is it correct?

  • Avraka,

I do not know of any differences between the bq51013A and bq51013B that would result in the differences you're seeing on the bq500212A EVM.

Please make sure the TS-CTRL pin is actually going to a voltage level.  Depending on the EVM, the EXT must be pulled high.

    Regards,

    Dick

  • Dear Dick.

When I put the TS-CTRL as High by using external logic control 3.3V, QI Sniffer from AVID shows "End Power Transfer : Charge Complete" in her GUI.

It's same with datasheet description in BQ51013A.

But in case of BQ51013B, QI sniffer shows "End Power Transfer : Unknown". So BQ500212A EVM turn off Green LED in spite of TS-CTRL is High. I used LED Mode1. My expectation is Solid Green whenever TX receive EPT01 packet from RX. But It seems to be sent EPT-00 by BQ51013B.

  • Is there any resolution to this question?

I've confirmed that, like the BQ51013B-EVM, the BQ51003-EVM sends out EPT - Unknown rather than EPT - Charge Complete (according to AVID Qi Sniffer) in response to either TS/CTRL being pulled high or EN1 pin being pulled high.

How do we get this chip to send out the correct packet?

The problem here is that the Transmitter behaves differently (undesirably) to the EPT - Unknown response.

  • Avraka,

My apologies for not answering your post earlier.

The bq51013B and bq51003 datasheets have the incorrect  information in Table 4 and will be updated shortly.  Taking TS/CTRL high or EN1 high (EN2 remaining low) will generate an EPT unknown.  The bq51013A will generate EPT Charge Complete in the same situation.

For all three devices (bq51013A, bq51013B, bq51003) taking EN1=EN2=High will generate an EPT Charge Complete.

Let me know if this works for your implementation.

    Regards,

    Dick
