BQ500215 (or 212) circuit without SLEEP/SNOOZE forcing the supply off

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ500215

I understand the so called RC implementation for low power SLEEP/SNOOZE, which is implemented in any example schematics by TI (see also app note 3377.bqTESLA TX Sleep Mode -- 212A.pdf), but I still have a question.

Since I don't really care about power consumption, I'm wondering if I can implement a schematic using the BQ500215 without having the SLEEP/SNOOZE functionalities. In other words, my idea is to leave both the SNOOZE and SLEEP pins unconnected. Since I will have a microcontroller driving the BQ500215 through the /RESET pin, I believe I need to pull-up the SNOOZE_CAP pin , in order to have the BQ starting pinging anytime it gets out from the reset.

Any other drawbacks when not using the SNOOZE/SLEEP circui as shown in the EVB schematics?

Regards,

Umberto

  • Hello Umberto

For a Non-Qi application (no certification test) this will work.

The SNOOZE_CAP pin is used during a charge complete condition, it will tell the unit it has been off for short Snooze or long Sleep and LED treated differently.

Another option is to control SLEEP & SNOOZE internal to the device, LED Mode 2 can be used.  Device does not expect the external RC to be installed, unit will remain on all the time and control all timing inside the device.
