BQ51013B not using FOD

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ51013B, BQ500212A

I don't want to use the FOD feature. I am pairing this with the bq500212A and leaving pin 17 floating as per the datasheet. What is done with the FOD pin on the BQ51013B (receiver side) and how does this affect R1 and RFOD used for current limiting the device.

Thanks!

  • I suggest you start with the values in bq51013B EVM for the resistor value between FOD and RECT and the resistor value of RFOD. Then you can calculate the overall RILM which is R1+RFOD using the formula on the datasheet: RILIM = 250/IMAX. R1 can be then determined by RILIM-RFOD.

  • It sounds like maybe the FOD might not be important on the RX side? I would imagine it still sends the received power back to the TX side but since it is disabled on that end it ignores the packet.
  • The FOB circuit is important on the RX side too if your system actually cares about FOD and use this function. You are right that the RX will still send the power information back to TX, but the TX will not do anything about it because the FOD is disabled.

Please note that even if you don't need FOD, we still recommend you to have the RFOD and Ros connected in the RX circuit to ensure the normal operation and to be compliant with WPC Qi standard.

    Thanks,
