BQ51050BRHL "quiescent" current

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ51050B, BQ25100, BQ51003

Hi,

we are using BQ51050BRHL to charge a small battery that requires only 35 mA fast charge current.

Adjusting the various component the BQ51050BRHL works fine.

For most of the time, the system powered by the battery drows only 4 uA, consequentely any additional current should possibly be avoided.

However, when the receiver coil is not on the transmitter coil (no wireless power present), we found that the BQ51050BRHL drows around 170 uA.

Is this wright? or this current should be maximum 20 uA as indicated in the data sheets 8.5 Iq?

What should be the state of the various control pin in order to minimize this current?

Thank you

  • Are you testing on our EVM? I have verified the on our EVM that quiescent current at the BAT when the wireless power is disabled is around 12uA.

Is 4 uA your calulated current draw by the system? or is it tested when wireless power is presented?

Please see bq51050B EVMuser's guide to see the configuration that I verified on the bench.

  • Also, BQ51050B charging current spec between 500mA to 1500A. It is not recommended to use bq51050B for 35mA fast charge applicaitons. Please take a look at bq51003 + bq25100 combination. This combo will provide much acurate termination with low current charging batteries. The IQ should also be lower.
